Our fund has invested in Ubicquia, a US intelligent infrastructure innovation company

Marunouchi Innovation Partners Co., Ltd. through Marunouchi Climate Tech Growth Fund L.P. (collectively “MIP”), has invested in Ubicquia, Inc. (“Ubicquia”), a company that provides plug-and-play IoT devices at the edge of power infrastructure to transform existing streetlights and distribution transformers into intelligent grid sensors.

Distribution networks worldwide are under growing pressure from aging assets, increasingly frequent severe weather events, and escalating maintenance costs. Key infrastructure, such as streetlights and distribution transformers at the edge of the grid network, often operate without smart technologies. Legacy streetlights require costly maintenance and lack real-time data capabilities, while utilities face limited visibility into distribution infrastructure. These challenges result in inefficient maintenance, undetected failures, and constrained capacity, highlighting the urgent need for connected, intelligent solutions to enable real-time grid monitoring, support digital transformation (DX) efforts, and optimize operations and maintenance.

Ubicquia’s edge-AI solution offers simply installed devices, connected over LTE, that transforms legacy infrastructure into intelligent systems, enabling real-time visibility, predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency across diverse applications on the integrated control platforms. By equipping streetlights and distribution transformers with advanced sensors and edge-AI technology, Ubicquia’s solutions provide actionable insights to reduce energy consumption (~40% for streetlights), help detect and prevent outages, monitor voltage quality, and predict equipment failures. Customers benefit from enhanced reliability, reduced operational costs, and improved infrastructure management.

Ian Aaron, Ubicquia CEO:
“The MIP team shares our belief that the edge of the grid is one of the most powerful places to drive resilience, efficiency, and measurable impact. Their investment accelerates our ability to help utilities turn existing streetlights and distribution transformers into intelligent assets that deliver real-time visibility, predictive maintenance, and lower operating costs. We’re excited to partner with MIP as we scale our solutions and support the digital transformation of power infrastructure worldwide.”

Ichiro Miyoshi, MIP CEO / CIO:
“We are proud to partner with Ubicquia. Digitizing legacy assets such as streetlights and transformers is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to strengthen grids as utilities seek to reduce the maintenance cost and improve the grid resilience. Ubicquia’s plug-and-play technology is fully consistent with our mission of supporting the global energy transition, and we look forward to supporting their further growth and global expansion.”
